The transit of freight trains on the tracks generates significant forces, which are transmitted to the ballast through the sleeper. To preserve the ballast and limit dynamic forces, a pad is applied to the underside of the sleeper during its casting during the manufacturing process. This reduction in ballast attrition helps to extend its longevity. It also contributes to reducing the frequency of ballast tamping to maintain track geometry.
B-RAIL technical teams took part in the European working group and established partnerships with suppliers of Under Sleeper Pads. Currently, the pads are already used on many models.
